Julia Church is a young South African born but London based singer and Tremble is the second release from her upcoming debut album.
Growing up listening to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Nora Jones you’d think her music would have a very jazzy and folky feel. Tremble starts with a typical jazz piano but the track then picks up into an uptempo electronic based number with seductive vocals and cutting lyrics, not unsimilar to a young Amy Winehouse. This certainly makes sense when I discovered that Julia had collaborated on several dance tracks in her native South Africa.
Julia seems the sort of artist who could appeal to a wide range of music fans and could be equally at home fronting a track for a dance based act as performing in a traditional Jazz Club. She wasn’t an artist I’d heard of before but is certainly one I’ll be keeping an eye on.
